How To Come Up With Blog Content

Posted by Debra Simpson On December - 31 - 2009

search01Many bloggers find it difficult to blog regularly. On the other hand, other bloggers find it easy to blog everyday.

As you are aware, for your blogging to be effective, you will need to add fresh content to your blog on a regular basis. This article presents five tips that you can use to make blogging easy.

  • Write your blog content in advance, post date the post, and save it so that it’s ready to be posted at least three times a week. I tell my clients that if they blogged once a week I’d be thrilled. Take your most frequently asked questions (FAQ) and create a post for each one. By post dating your blog posts you can publish throughout the week without having to stop and write another post.
  • Blog about a wide range of things that relate to your niche. Think about any information relating to your niche which your website visitors will be interested in seeing on your blog. Identify the sub-niches in your niche and write about those as well. You should never run out of ideas on what to blog about.
  • Invite your blog visitors to leave some comments relating to your posts and your niche. This is an easy way of getting unique content on your website. The more interaction you allow on your blog, the more content you will have on your blog. I try to end each post with an invitation to join the conversation by commenting.
  • Research and look for the key questions and issues that people in your niche are interested in, and provide information that addresses those questions on your blog. (A great use for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networking sites.) Look in the relevant forums for the hot topics that people are asking, and provide answers to these questions on your blog. This will make your blog useful to your visitors because it will have information which your visitors are looking for. This gives you a wide range of topics that you can blog about.
  • Check out YouTube for videos that support your message, or add value to what you do without competing. Sometimes others create videos that easily explain processes, strategies, and systems. They can be of great value to your blog, and … you don’t need to write the content. Of course, your own YouTube videos would be an ideal strategy for syndicating your content over a variety of media.

Blogging – What’s it all about?

Posted by Debra Simpson On December - 15 - 2009

crayon01Blogging has incited the curiosity of millions of people all over the world; it represents a great opportunity for those who create blogs and for those who use them. In the beginning blogging was seen as keeping personal diaries online, however, blogging is far more complex owing to the fact that every blog carries the touch of the owner’s imagination, interest and wit. The range of topics blogs deal with is incredibly wide: from politics and religion to sky diving and scuba diving. The next very important aspect after blog content is actually the interactive format of the pages that allows users to take action on the site by commenting. I liken it to “joining the conversation.”

In the early days of blogging around the mid-90s, people enjoyed the experience of belonging to the online community that went beyond all sorts of boundaries. This was the time when the very first combination of text, pictures and videos were included in a blog, as the most accurate way of reflecting one’s life. Sometimes, bloggers transmitted live images with the help of various portable devices, creating the so-called semi-automated blogging.

At that time, blogs were not individual pages, as they mainly functioned as components of larger websites; nevertheless, with the rapid development of technologies, it came into everyone’s power to create and support a personal independent blog. Successful blogging focuses on high quality content that makes any visitor return to the site and even take action on it.

Presently, you can find guides to creating successful blogs, since, many small business owners perceive the phenomenon as a great chance to promote products and services online. Blogs are presently part of the Internet marketing strategies anyone should use as included within online advertising campaigns; the great advantage of blogging is that it mainly targets potential customers, reducing the number of uninterested users. We could say that thanks to advertising and Internet marketing, blogging has actually become a very promising type of business.

So how do you get started? I’d suggest WordPress.com. It’s a free blogging site and you’ll quickly discover whether blogging is something you can use to leverage your business online. Sign up for access to Syndicating Your Content’s exclusive “members only” area (subscription box is to the right, at the top of the column) to view the WordPress.com video tutorial I created for you! Also, check out the Category section of Syndicating Your Content. There’s a lot of content on blogging on the site. Let me know what you think about blogging by commenting!

We’ve all been told “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” This book provides practical approaches and positive phrases for those times Sarita Maybinwhen you need to say something NOT so nice. Learn how to constructively clue someone in, deflect the negative comment of a well-meaning friend, or let a business colleague know what he or she is doing drives you crazy — without destroying the relationship.

We’ll be talking about the book and you’ll find out answers to such questions as:

  • How do I know if I should confront a situation or just let it go?
  • How can I tactfully refuse unreasonable demands made by coworkers or friends?
  • How can I soften the sting when giving negative feedback or bad news?
  • What should I do if someone asks my opinion and I have nothing good to say?
  • How do I tell my boss a thing or two without appearing ugly or insubordinate?

What’s the best way to respond to nasty comments like “that’s a dumb idea,” “I knew you couldn’t do it” or “what were you thinking?”

Sarita shared her 3 Ps

  • don’t take it personally
  • remember this will pass
  • keep the big picture in mind

during our conversation about feedback. She also shared her 3 AIR Steps.

  • A – is the other person aware of the situation
  • I – what is the impact of the other person’s behavior
  • R – can you request them to look at what could be done differently

Sarita can be reached at her website, Sarita Maybin.

Still Another 5 Ways To Build Your Subscriber List

Posted by Debra Simpson On December - 9 - 2009

This is the final post in a series of fifteen, sharing how you can build your email subscriber list. I know this can be a bit overwhelming, so take these 15 suggestions (first five, second five) and look at what you can do yourself. Then,

  1. Include a “Sign Up” button in your newsletter. If you’re using plain text instead of HTML, be sure to provide a text link to your subscription page. You may feel that this is not required because the subscriber is already on your list, but remember that readers will forward your newsletters to others, or reprint them online. Make it easy for them to subscribe!
  2. Add a squeeze page. A squeeze page has one goal − to acquire opt-ins and build your list. Think of it as a mini-sales letter to go along with your subscription or opt-in gift. It should feature a strong headline and a couple of powerful benefits that should make subscribers salivate to sign up! Once created, use a service such as WordTracker to find hundreds of targeted keywords, and promote your offer using pay-per-click advertising from Google, MSN and Yahoo. Now that should make a splash!
  3. Include testimonials on your squeeze page. This is crucial. Put one or two strong testimonials from satisfied customers on your squeeze page. This can be in any format, but you may find that multimedia (audio or video) is more “believable” and inspires more people to action. To further enhance believability, get permission to use actual customer names, locations and/or urls (Don’t use “Bob K, FL”). Add a note inviting others to participate. After all, it’s free publicity!
  4. Blog religiously. Blogging is a great way to communicate with prospects and potential customers, and creates a nice synergy with your email marketing. Be sure to include your newsletter sign-up form on each page of your blog. You can start a free blog at Blogger or WordPress.
  5. Post on other blogs. Post thoughtful comments and information on similar blogs with a link to your squeeze or opt-in pages. Also comment on others’ blogs through trackbacks. In most cases, your comments will be posted on their blogs with a link back to your site. This is an easy way to generate new traffic and subscribers, and get your brand out there!

5 More Ways To Build Your Subscriber List

Posted by Debra Simpson On December - 7 - 2009

The last blog post started a series of fifteen ways to build your subscriber list. Here are the second five tips to building your list.

  1. Provide samples of your newsletters and Ezines. This lets potential subscribers review your materials before they sign up to determine if it’s something they’d be interested in.
  2. Archive past newsletters and articles. An online library of past newsletters and articles is both appealing and useful to visitors and builds your credibility as an authority. In addition, if your articles are written with good SEO techniques in mind, they can increase traffic to your website through enhanced search engine positioning.
  3. Give gifts subscribers can actually use. Offer an opt-in bonus for joining your subscriber list! Write an ebook or provide a PDF business report, or even hire a programmer to create downloadable or web-based software. But don’t limit yourself to offering gifts to opt-ins. Give them out when your readers fill out a survey, provide a testimonial, success story, or a great product idea. Let them know when they can expect the next gift offer. Everyone likes to get something for free! And if you pass out “goodies” throughout the year, your subscribers will feel truly appreciated − and that’s good for business!
  4. Ask your subscribers to pass it on. Word of mouth is a powerful viral technique that works great with email marketing. If your subscribers find your content interesting, amusing or informative, they’ll probably share it with their friends. This can be a great source of new customers, so make sure to remind them to “pass it on”.
  5. Let others reprint your newsletter as long as the content is not modified. If you’re happy to share your content with the universe, then why not! Many webmasters and newsletter publishers are actively looking for high-quality content and, if they reprint your newsletter, you’ll get new subscribers, and more traffic and links pointing to your site.

I’d love to hear how you are building your list. How about a comment??
