Interview with Publisher, Susan Daffron

Posted by Debra Simpson On April - 20 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Various surveys have shown that 80% of people want to write a book, yet most people never get beyond dreaming about being a published author.

In this interview Susan Daffron shares tips on the following:

  • How Susan got beyond her big "stuckness" on two book projects that had been languishing in old discarded Word files for literally years.
  • How to find and repurpose writing you may already have in other forms.
  • How to determine if you can actually sell your book once it’s finished.
  • Which areas of the publishing process you can outsource, depending on your skills (and one you definitely should).
  • How to publish your book "on the cheap" and avoid the stigma of subsidy/vanity presses.
  • Numbers and acronyms you need to know about once you enter the wild and wooly world of self-publishing.

If you’ve got a book project you wish you could finish, join Susan Daffron and take your first step toward making that dream a reality.

Why Am I Tweeting on Twitter?

Posted by Debra Simpson On February - 13 - 20092 COMMENTS

Follow Me On Twitter - Magicinblogging

I’ve been using Twitter for several months now and see the possibilities for not only syndicating your content, but also elevating your visibility and credibility online.

Here’s a "Beginner’s Guide to Twitter" for you to check out. There are resources discussed and linked to from this blog post. I hope this helps you better understand how to use Twitter to put a few more eyeballs on your content.

Just a caveat, it’s about being social and contributing. It’s not about using Twitter as a broadcast mechanism for your products or services. Not to say that tweets for your webinars, podcasts, etc can never be tweeted, just make sure you engage and add to existing conversations too. It’s all about relationships.

Learn To Use Facebook For Your BusinessSocial Networking has become the buzz word in the small business community. Now is a great time to build your sphere of influence online. Facebook is one of the most active social networking sites for solopreneurs.

ScribeFire Makes Posting Easy

Posted by Debra Simpson On November - 18 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Firefox ExtensionIf you use the FireFox browser you may be familiar with FireFox’s addons. One of the addons I use regularly is ScribeFire. ScribeFire can really help you with posting to your blog, or if you are like me and other bloggers, your blogs….

With ScribeFire you can set up your blogs in the admin area and when you are surfing the web and find a site, post, or article you want to reference, you simply tap F8 to launch ScribeFire.

With ScribeFire you can post to your blog, add images from your harddrive or Flikr and even videos from YouTube. You can categorize your posts, even use the timestamp to publish them at a later date. If you’re referencing other online sources, ScribeFire can be a great tool to use in leveraging your time.

If you have any tools you use to make your blogging easier, I invite you to share by commenting.

Marketing With Audio and Video

Posted by Debra Simpson On November - 3 - 2008ADD COMMENTS

Penny Haynes, Commercial Creation Center, and I had a discussion about using audio and video in combination with social media as a way to leverage business on the Internet.

Penny took an informal poll over at LinkedIn, asking about which social networking sites other business owners and professionals used. The usual suspects were mentioned, in addition to a few that aren’t well know.  The sites discussed were:

Bottom line, if you really want to maximize your social networking, it’s imperative that you gain your site visitor’s trust and multimedia can do that for you. It’s getting easier and easier to create audio and video. The Commercial Creation Center is a push button system to let you do just that, reach out to your community in a very personal manner.

If you are already using audio and video, feel free to share your experience, what has worked and what didn’t.

Syndicating Your ContentBlogging is taking off like a wildfire. People are blogging about just about anything you can think of. From the daily routine of their cat, to technology reviews, to politics.

Until the blogosphere sorts itself out and matures a bit more, it may be difficult to tell exactly how this new frontier of instant publishing can help you and your business grow. But don’t worry – you’ll start getting a flood of new ideas in the coming months.

For now, the most important thing you can do is develop the right mindset about business blogging. What you think about something, and how you strategize applying it in your business very often has more to do with success than the technology, tool, or resource itself.

With that in mind, here is the most important thing you can do. Keep your eye on people.

DO NOT get stuck on the “technology.” That’s what drove all the pie-in-the-sky dot.com dreamers into the financial abyss. It’s people and personal communication that matter most, and should always be a the center of all your thoughts, strategies, and actions.

Blogging is just a tool. But it’s a tool that can and should become a major support arm of your business. Why?

Because it exponentially multiplies the world’s oldest, most favored, and trusted form of information sharing — word of mouth.

Just ask yourself, whom do you trust the most to give you advice, recommendations, and information about opportunities, purchases, or choices? Someone you know and trust, right? Someone who you feel is just like you.

That type of trust comes from personal communication, social interaction, and the joining together of like-minded individuals. Blogging simply magnifies and expands that sense of community and more personalized communication, and then expands the reach across the entire world!

Link trust; with respect, positioning, and word-of-mouth and you have the makings of a powerful marketing arm that can initiate an ever-growing stream of highly targeted prospects.

Remember, it’s the relationships that matter most. Keep your eye on that fact, and you’ll always have the right mindset for business blogging that’s a benefit for you and your readers.
